Art
“Art is not just a subject to learn, but an activity that you can practise with your hands, your eyes, your whole personality.”
Quentin Blake
Mission Statement
Rooted in gospel values St Cecilia’s Catholic School Community lives together, learns together, loves together.
Vision
At St. Cecilia’s Junior School we believe that art stimulates creativity, imagination and inventiveness. The Art curriculum is rooted in our Gospel values - we live together, learn together, and love together. We believe that art gives our pupils the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to express responses to ideas and experiences of the world they live in. Through diverse quality experience, Art should fire their imagination, challenge them to see and feel the world around them.
We teach a Mastery approach and self’ evaluation of work is encouraged; our children are taught how to be resilient to achieve their goals in their production of high-quality work in art and in other areas of the broad and balanced curriculum. We use sketchbooks to record experience and imagination, to help the children develop their ideas and to challenge their artistic ability. Children should experiment with their ideas, their use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes.
We give children the opportunities to visit museums and galleries so that children also explore ideas and meanings through the work of artists and designers; equipping them for their educational journey as citizens of the world. In turn, our learners are proud of their achievements as we encourage their curiosity and develop their creativity. We encourage children to be independent and to work collaborating with others on projects in two and three dimensions. We strive to make them confident artists so that they can thrive socially, morally, spiritually and culturally.
"Every human is an artist."
