Mission Statement

Rooted in gospel values St Cecilia’s Catholic School Community lives together, learns together, loves together.

Vision

At St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School, we feel it is important to inspire and encourage a curiosity, fascination and respect for the world and its people, and a sense of pride in where we come from. Through our geography curriculum and valuable learning experiences, we prepare our pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to make sense of the world and face the challenges that will shape our societies and environments at local, national and global scales.

Throughout the school, children will learn about diverse cultures, people, places, resources, and natural and human environments, allowing them to thrive socially, morally, culturally and spiritually. They will explore the Earth’s human and physical features, discuss how these differ across the world and consider the processes that form and change them.

At our school, we also aim to build upon pupils’ skills, conceptual understanding and use of geographical vocabulary, making use of local resources and progressing towards the wider world. We believe that this underpins thinking ‘geographically’ about the changing world and will prepare our pupils to live sustainably.

At St Cecilia's Catholic Primary School, the teaching of geography is at the heart of the Spring Term's 'Explore' theme. Each year group will embark upon meaningful projects to answer a 'BIG QUESTION'.

Year 1:

  • What are the important places in our classroom, school, and local area, and how do they connect to each other? (Autumn Term)
  • How are the UK’s countries and capital cities connected to the rest of the world? (Spring Term)
  • How is Liverpool similar and different to other cities and regions across the UK? (Summer Term)

Year 2:

  • What are the important landmarks in Liverpool, and why are they special to the people who live there? (Autumn Term)
  • How do the continents and oceans help us understand different places in the world? (Spring Term)
  • How is life in England different from life in China? (Summer Term)

Year 3: What impact does Tectonic activity have on the Earth?

Year 4: How does water change our world?
