Reception

At St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School, we value the importance of laying the foundations for our children to learn and thrive. We want our children to be happy, confident and resilient learners.
Here, in Reception, we create a nurturing environment where children are encouraged to explore, discover and grow. Every day is an adventure, whether indoors or out in the fresh air!
We hope that you will join us on our journey of curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love of learning!

In Reception, we use an online learning journal called Tapestry. This allows us to record your child's experiences and development throughout their early years. We often upload class notices and other important information regarding just Reception children on our Tapestry page. Tapestry is a great form of communication! We encourage families to upload their own contributions for us to share and celebrate in class.
In Reception, we strive to support children in becoming happy, enthusiastic readers who have a good understanding of what they have read. We teach phonics daily, using the Monster Phonics Scheme, and we also have reading sessions focusing on practising and applying their phonic skills.
Please be aware that books are to be returned each Tuesday and a new book will be sent home on Thursdays. This enables you to read with your child at home and provides you with five days before the book is due to be returned.
Super Start in Reception!
What a fun and exciting first half term it has been in Reception ๐!
We are delighted to share that all the children have settled in beautifully to their new routines. It has been heartwarming to see them make lots of new friends, and they seem to be enjoying their school dinners, which have certainly become a highlight of the day ๐ฝ๏ธ.
Our little learners have been engaging with Monster Phonics, diving into the magical world of sounds and letters with enthusiasm. We've also had several focus days that have been so much fun! The Maths Party Day was filled with excitement, with games and challenges that sparked their curiosity, while our Wear Yellow and Wear Red days brought a splash of colour and joy to the classroom.
The highlight of the term was undoubtedly Monster Bash Day, where we embraced lots of monster madness! The laughter and creative energy filled the air, and it was wonderful to see the children express themselves through their costumes and activities.
Overall, it has been a successful start to their time in Reception. We are so proud of each and every child and can’t wait to see what the next half term brings!๐โญ๏ธ๐งก
Best wishes,
Reception Teachers ๐

We are writers
This half term we have been reading the story The Something by Rebecca Cobb.

We discovered a mysterious hole in our school garden! We crept through an opening in the bushes and noticed a hole in the ground at the bottom of the tree.
We spent the afternoon wondering whether a creature had made the hole and whether there was something hiding inside ๐ง.
