Reception

At St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School, we value the importance of laying the foundations for our children to learn and thrive.  We want our children to be happy, confident and resilient learners.

Here, in Reception, we create a nurturing environment where children are encouraged to explore, discover and grow. Every day is an adventure, whether indoors or out in the fresh air!

We hope that you will join us on our journey of curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love of learning!

In Reception, we use an online learning journal called Tapestry. This allows us to record your child's experiences and development throughout their early years. We often upload class notices and other important information regarding just Reception children on our Tapestry page. Tapestry is a great form of communication! We encourage families to upload their own contributions for us to share and celebrate in class.

In Reception, we strive to support children in becoming happy, enthusiastic readers who have a good understanding of what they have read. We teach phonics daily, using the Monster Phonics Scheme, and we also have reading sessions focusing on practising and applying their phonic skills.

Please be aware that books are to be returned each Tuesday and a new book will be sent home on Thursdays.  This enables you to read with your child at home and provides you with five days before the book is due to be returned.

We are active learners!

Physical development is a crucial part of our learning in Reception. We understand the importance of being healthy, active, improving our spatial awareness and developing our strength, coordination and balance. We have been providing lots of opportunities both indoors and outdoors, to develop gross motor skills in a fun and engaging way.

The children have really enjoyed taking part in our weekly 'Fundamental Movement' sessions and PE lessons. They have been concentrating on a different skill each week, and have taken part in activities that focus on their stability and control. We have seen an improvement in their balancing skills, and they have even demonstrated this when building obstacle courses outside in the garden.

We have also been focusing on using tools effectively and safely. Well done to all the children for beginning to use cutlery and scissors with care and precision. We are delighted to see their fine motor skills improving 👏! Remember to keep encouraging this at home, too 😀!

Well done, Reception ⭐️.

We are writers

This half-term we have been reading the story Juniper Jupiter by Lizzie Stewart.

Juniper Jupiter is a real-life superhero. She's super brave, super fast, super strong, super smart and she can even fly. But something is missing.   Juniper Jupiter needs a side-kick!

We have been joining Juniper Jupiter on her mission to find a side-kick who is super funny, super kind, loves to dance and most of all...loves ice-cream!
